Yu Da University Ignites Green-Energy Fever as Miaoli Students Gear Up for the KidWind Challenge

2025/9/10

The KidWind Challenge in Asia Miaoli information session was grandly held at Yu Da University of Science and Technology, organized by the university and co-organized by AESEA. It attracted enthusiastic top students from schools across Miaoli, including the Biomechatronics and Sheet Metal departments of National Miaoli Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School, the Information department of Chung Hsing Commercial and Industrial Vocational High School, and the Information and Plumbing & Electrical departments of Junyi High School.

The event welcomed a distinguished lineup of guests, including Professor Lin Yen-tsen, Dean of Research and Development at Yu Da University of Science and Technology; Professor Yeh Lu-tso, Chair of the Department of Intelligent Mechatronic Engineering and Applications; Mr. Cheng An-pang, Practicum Director at Miaoli Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School; Dr. Tsai Ping-kun, Head of its Mechatronics department; and AESEA Secretary-General Yang Tien-to. Secretary-General Yang introduced the history of the KidWind Challenge and this year's rules, helping first-time participants from Miaoli find their bearings.

Professor Lin Yen-tsen emphasized: "We hope this session plants the seeds of green energy in the Miaoli area, and that through the KidWind Challenge, students will build their own wind turbines and put their ideas into practice."

During the session, students eagerly asked questions about wind power generation, demonstrating a hands-on spirit and strong ambition. The organizers also arranged real wind tunnel testing and simulations with the basic KidWind kit, letting students experience the competition flow firsthand, sparking creativity and prompting numerous on-the-spot ideas for turbine improvements.

In past years, Central region teams came mostly from Taichung and Nantou; this year, Miaoli's entry injects fresh momentum into the competition. With the Central regional preliminary set for September 27, 2025, expectations are high that Miaoli's students will ride the wind with passion and creativity, deliver standout performances, and spark even more green-energy inspiration alongside their fellow competitors.
