With the global emphasis on renewable energy and sustainable development, alongside the rapid growth of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, cultivating students' green energy knowledge, hands-on practical skills, and engineering design thinking has become a key objective for future education. To encourage students to deeply explore the field of clean energy, the Asia-Pacific Energy & Science Education Association specifically introduces the "KidWind Student Clean Energy Technology Certification Program."
This program is more than just a skill testing platform; it is a comprehensive learning system that integrates innovative design, practical testing, and engineering logic. In authentic wind tunnel testing and photovoltaic experimental environments, students master core technologies, evolving into the next generation of talent driving global green energy development.
Learning by Doing, Powering the Real World
The KidWind Student Green Energy Technology Certification Program is dedicated to creating an inspiring renewable energy learning platform. Through a systematic hands-on and certification process, it guides students from an initial understanding of wind and solar power to becoming "Junior Green Energy Experts" capable of advanced engineering design and data optimization.
The core philosophy is "Learning by Doing, Powering the Real World." This is reflected not only in the manual construction of wind turbines or solar vehicles but also throughout the Engineering Design Process (EDP) of continuous testing, refinement, and troubleshooting. Through this program, every student can experience the joy of exploring clean energy while building a solid foundation in scientific literacy and sustainability awareness.
The program emphasizes hands-on work and scientific validation. Students learn to transform everyday materials into high-efficiency power devices through a "ground-up" design process. This holistic learning—combining physics with practice—greatly enhances the ability to solve unknown problems through the "test-fail-improve" cycle.
Earning a KidWind certification is not only a validation of technical skills but also proof of a high commitment to environmental sustainability. This certificate, along with the accumulated "Engineering Notebook," serves as a highlight for domestic and international university applications (e.g., Learning Portfolios) and scholarship requests, paving the path to the green energy and tech industries.
Certified students will have a stronger foundation to participate in the world-renowned KidWind Challenge. Here, students can compete with top teams globally, sharing insights on blade design or gear configurations and expanding their international horizons.
The process encourages creativity in seeking optimal power efficiency or innovative mechanical designs. Through writing and presenting project reports, students learn to articulate scientific arguments clearly and leverage individual strengths within a team.
The program is divided into four levels, allowing students to challenge higher tiers of green energy engineering based on their age, ability, and learning progress. Tap each level to expand its assessment details.
To ensure solid learning outcomes while providing flexibility, KidWind utilizes a rigorous process that removes the limitations of on-site physical testing:
Students choose a level based on their learning stage and receive study guides and safety protocols.
Students engage in practical courses or independent R&D, recording detailed data (wind speed, voltage, current, RPM) as the core material for their Engineering Notebook.
This certification does not require a physical performance test. Instead, it uses a dual-track evaluation of "Online Knowledge Testing" and "Engineering Notebook Review." The notebook standards for each level are detailed in "Certification Levels Detailed" above.
Upon passing, students receive the official KidWind Student Green Energy Technology Certificate and an honorary badge.
Certified students are invited to join the KidWind Taiwan/Asia student community and are encouraged to compete internationally or serve as volunteers/mentors in future events.
