Today marks an inspiring, historic moment for our association (the Asia-Pacific Energy & Science Education Association, AESEA)! On the morning of June 3, AESEA Chairman Chou Chien-heng and Secretary-General Yang Tien-to led the "Taiwan Delegation to the 2026 KidWind World Championship," accompanied by Minister of Education Cheng Ying-yao, to the Executive Yuan, where they were personally received and commended by Premier Cho Jung-tai.
This past May, Taiwan's young competitors traveled to the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the United States, where they stood out among 125 teams and more than 550 top competitors from around the world — sweeping 4 world championships and proudly bringing home 3 special awards: the Judges' Award, the KidWind Spirit Award, and the Blade Engineering Award. This is not only a supreme honor for Taiwan's students, but a showcase to the world of Taiwan's impressive scientific strength and green-energy soft power!
In his remarks, Premier Cho Jung-tai expressed his deep appreciation for the award-winning team led by AESEA. He praised these young students as brimming with potential, noting how rare it is to achieve international acclaim at such a young age.
"The most critical cornerstone of the nation's energy transition is talent development."
The Premier emphasized that the government is actively advancing an international talent training program for the wind power industry, and through the "NT$10 Billion Youth Overseas Dream Fund" it encourages students to pursue studies abroad in green energy and the circular economy. This year, it also launched its first flagship "Green Gateway" exploration mission, sending outstanding young people to Paraguay to gain experience in sustainable development. The government hopes to work hand in hand with industry, government, and academia to nurture a new generation of green-energy talent.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Chairman Chou Chien-heng shared that he and Secretary-General Yang Tien-to were on site at the finals in the United States, witnessing intense competition among powerhouse teams from around the world. Taiwan's teams ultimately prevailed thanks to "a solid theoretical foundation, outstanding hands-on creativity, and meticulous, ingenious experimental exploration."
Chairman Chou reaffirmed that the association's mission is to "unite positive, constructive forces." This honor not only confirms the early success of Taiwan's wind energy science education, but also demonstrates the boundless vitality of Taiwan's green-energy industry. Going forward, the association will continue to refine its internationally leading wind power teaching materials and work to perfect its teaching certification system, building the nation's most reliable reservoir of talent.
Riding the momentum of this championship run, Chairman Chou also announced a major event for the end of the year: the "KidWind Challenge in Asia," hosted by the association since 2019, will be held in grand style in Taiwan this December!
KidWind's U.S. founders Michael and Kathy, along with other core members, will travel to Taiwan in person, joined by championship delegations from Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, as well as the champions who emerged from over a thousand teams in Thailand — creating an unprecedented spectacle of 6 nations competing on the same stage. Chairman Chou personally invited Premier Cho to attend the opening ceremony, and expressed hope for meetings with relevant agencies in the near future to seek deeper collaboration, so that this Taiwan-led international competition can exert even greater convening power — "making friends through science, and expanding citizen diplomacy full of opportunity."
