2025 KidWind Thailand Regional Preliminary Round Concludes Successfully!
The preliminary round of the 2025 KidWind Thailand Regional Competition, jointly organized by the Faculty of Science at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and the Asia-Pacific Energy & Science Education Association, was recently completed. The competition gives students a platform to explore renewable energy and innovate in wind power technology, while opening a valuable pathway to international competition.
Competition Highlights
The KidWind Challenge tasks students with designing, building, and testing wind turbines that generate electricity efficiently from the wind. Teams must demonstrate their engineering design and energy-conversion skills in a simulated environment. 🏅 The winning teams from the final will represent Thailand at the Asia League in Taiwan, going head-to-head with top teams from across the Asia-Pacific!
Preliminary Round Overview
A total of 40 teams registered for the fiercely contested preliminary round, competing for 20 spots in the final. The preliminary challenge required teams to complete a 30-second wind tunnel test, with scoring based on maximum energy output. Teams advancing to the final on August 2 will face even tougher challenges, including dynamic tests with shifting wind directions to assess the adaptability and stability of their designs.
What Students Gained
The participating Thai students demonstrated outstanding engineering problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of energy concepts, and spoke highly of the competition's innovative format and educational value. The KidWind Challenge not only sparks students' passion for green-energy technology, but also underscores its important role in advancing sustainable-energy education.
