2025 Year in Review

[Year in Review] 2025: Planting Seeds, Igniting the Future — A Banner Year for AESEA's Green Energy Education

Looking back, 2025 was a remarkably fruitful and meaningful year for AESEA (Asia-Pacific Energy and Science Education Association). Guided by our mission of turning learners into energy practitioners, we not only led Taiwanese students to make history on the international stage, but also built a genuine talent pipeline from K-12 classrooms to the green energy industry through deep local engagement and innovative international expansion.

Here are the four milestone achievements of our year:

1. Top of the World: Taiwan Claims Double KidWind World Championships

In May 2025, the association led Taiwan's delegation to Phoenix, USA, to compete against 131 of the world's top teams. Our young competitors demonstrated exceptional engineering prowess and achieved historic results:

• Elementary Division World Champion: Team "KILOWATTREL" from Huiwen Elementary School.
• High School Division World Champion: Team "Dr. Who's Teenagers" from Mingdao High School.
• High School Division Judges' Award: Team "Eagle Wings," a joint Taichung team (Taichung Industrial High School, Taichung First Senior High School, and Taichung Girls' Senior High School).

This achievement earned recognition at the highest national level: Premier Cho Jung-tai personally received and commended the teams, praising Taiwan's students for demonstrating world-leading strength in sustainable energy.

2. Crossing Borders: The First Thailand Regional and a Growing Asia League

This year we successfully extended our impact beyond Taiwan, officially reaching Asia-Pacific scale:

• Birth of the Thailand Regional: In partnership with King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), we held the first Thailand regional competition, drawing more than 800 student participants and revealing an extraordinary passion for green energy.
• Asia League Finals: In November, elite teams from Taiwan and Thailand gathered in Taiwan for cross-border competition. More than a contest, the event was a gathering of industry, government, and academia, with strong support from the Energy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Climate Change Administration of the Ministry of Environment, and CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners).

3. Local Roots: Science Seeds Blooming Everywhere

Even as we reached for the international stage, we never forgot our commitment to local roots. In 2025, through nationwide teacher training tours and regional competitions, the association carried the spark of green energy education into classrooms across Taiwan:

• A nationwide league wave: We held Northern, Central, and Southern regional qualifiers plus the Chiayi Wind Cup, engaging more than 100 teams and over 400 students in hands-on challenges.
• Building a certification system: To ensure teaching quality and international alignment, we launched the "KidWind Distinguished School" certification program. Wagor International School (Elementary Division, Beitun Campus) and Tainan Little Stark Laboratory became Taiwan's first certified school and southern Taiwan's first certified laboratory respectively, each equipped with standard wind tunnels and Vernier data sensors.

4. Cross-Disciplinary Innovation: The iBridge Bridge Load-Bearing Challenge

Beyond wind energy, the association is committed to cultivating cross-disciplinary engineering literacy. This year, in partnership with the Department of Civil Engineering at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, we successfully held the iBridge Cup Bridge Load-Bearing and Innovative Design Competition. For the first time, GoDirect structural testing instruments were introduced, allowing students to grasp the principles of structural mechanics through real-time data visualization.

[Looking Ahead to 2026] The Wind Never Stops — Neither Do We

The harvest of 2025 was cultivated together with countless teachers, students, parents, and partners. Looking ahead to 2026, we will continue to expand our impact:

1. Launch the 2026 FOBISIA Cup KidWind Wind Energy Invitational to deepen international exchange.
2. Return to the World Championships, leading a new class of Asian champions to the United States to compete with pride.
3. Nurture future engineering talent through training in data analysis and independent thinking, contributing to a net-zero 2050.
